Most of you who have been reading this blog for any length of time know that I have ongoing back issues. I ruptured a disc back in 2009 during a fall while we were out hiking. Two years ago, I re-injured it and the pain became excruciatingly unbearable. The fluid that had leaked out of my ruptured disc had hardened and was pressing into my sciatic nerve. It literally felt like my leg was on fire 24/7. I ended up having 2 surgeries within 2 weeks. I came out of the last surgery hopeful that I would finally be free from pain, but unfortunately that has not been the case. I am very thankful that I am no longer having the horrific sciatic pain (that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy). However due to the procedures I had done, I have been left with chronic lower back pain. I hate to be popping pills all the time, so I mostly just deal with it. However some days are worse than others. Consequently I am always on the lookout for remedies to help alleviate the lingering back pain.
So when I was recently contacted about reviewing new Zim’s Max-Arnica, I was all too happy to give it a try to see if it would help with my aching back.
Zim’s Max-Arnica is a homeopathic remedy – the first homeopathic remedy in the Zim’s line in fact! That means that the ingredients used to create this pain reliever all come from natural sources such as plants and minerals. In fact, when I looked at the ingredient list on the back of the bottle, I recognized all of them. The active ingredients are all plants – Aloe, Arnica Montana, Calendula Officinalis, and Bellis Perrenis. I love that it is all natural so I don’t have to worry about putting any harmful chemicals on my body.
We went out hiking over the weekend so I got the chance to put Zim’s Max Arnica to the test. Hiking was what got me into this mess in the first place – but I refuse to let my bad back keep me from an activity we all love doing as a family. Usually after we go hiking though, my back is extra sore. Between the uneven ground and the small backpack I wear, my lower back is usually not happy by the time we get back off the trail. So it was the perfect time to give Zim’s Max Arnica a try.
Zim’s Max-Arnica comes in a convenient roll-on bottle. I have tried a lot of products in the past that were messy or left an unpleasant odor on my hands after I applied them to my back. That’s not an issue with the Max-Arnica. The convenient roll-on bottle means that I never get any on my hands. The roller also helps massage the product into the affected area. It actually felt really good on my back as I was applying it.
Another thing I really liked about the Max-Arnica was that the scent was not over-powering. A lot of topical pain relievers stink to high heaven, but not this one. There is a light menthol scent there, but it’s not overwhelming. Plus it seems to disappear completely after a few minutes.
It is quite cool as it goes on and that gentle coldness seems to penetrate more into the ache as times passes. It is actually quite soothing and very good at dulling the pain. It doesn’t get quite as cold as other products do, which is good since some of those hot-cold pain relief products can be quite uncomfortable in my experience.
All in all, I was quite impressed with how well Max-Arnica worked. It soothed my aching back for several hours after our hike. I am definitely going to be taking this along when we go hiking in the future so I can apply it as soon as we get off the trail.
My husband doesn’t have the back issues that I do, but he does have normal aches and pains associated with getting older. Now that we are both in our forties, we don’t bounce back from minor pains like we did when we were younger. Zim’s Max-Arnica will be great for my husband to use as when he is bothered by any pulled muscles.
Now I realize most people don’t have the messed up back that I do, but Max-Arnica would be great to have on hand for any minor aches and bruises. Want to give this product a try yourself?
