Each year I struggle with what to do with all the Christmas cards we receive. I hate to throw them out, but don’t quite know what to do with them either. I have written in the past about using Christmas cards to make gift tags for next year. This year, I have a different use for them. I decided to cut them down into 3×4 and 4×6 cards so I can use them as Project Life filler cards.
For the 3×4 cards, I used my Stitched Journaling Card die from Lawn Fawn and my Sizzix Die-Cut Machine to quickly cut the Christmas cards down to size. I heard that Becky Higgins is coming out with both 3×4 and 4×6 journaling card dies at the CHA show this weekend. I am so excited to get those so all my rounded corners in my album will match.
I used washi tape to hold the die in place as I cut it, but Sizzix has a magnetic plate that makes things much easier. It is definitely on my wish list!
For the Christmas cards that had designs that were too large to cut into 3×4 cards, I used my paper trimmer to cut into 4×6 cards.
As you are cutting down your cards, be sure to save any ribbons. Those can be used as embellishment for Project Life as well. You can also save pretty holiday stamps from the envelopes and small embellishments on the cards like buttons and brads.
I am also saving the inside sentiments where the cards are signed. I have plans to make those into a scrapbook page of some sorts.
So tell me…. What do you do with your old Christmas cards? Have you used them in scrapbooking?
