Project Life DIY Rainy Days Journal Card

I love Project Life supplies, but they aren’t always ideal if you are making a themed album. Since I am currently working on our Disney pictures, I have been making a lot of my own 4×6 and 3×4 journal cards lately. So today I thought I would share a quick and easy Project Life DIY – a cute 4×6 Rain Rain Go Away journal card. It’s great for documenting any rainy day fun!

Project Life DIY Journal Cards are a great way to scrap your stash.  I have an entire craft room of scrapbooking supplies that I started collecting in the late 90’s.  I am making a huge effort to use what I have first before I buy anything else.

I started with some patterned paper from my stash.  It sort of reminded me of raindrops, so I thought it made a good background.  I added a 3×5 inch piece of white cardstock for the journaling.

I also dug through my letter stickers until I found a pack of cute mini letters from Creative Memories.  I think they were a thank you gift from an event I attended.

I then got out my trusty Cricut.  The Everyday Paper Dolls cartridge has umbrella, cloud, and raindrop shapes that were perfect for this project.   The 3 inch cloud is cut from parchment grey.  The raindrops were cut from light blue.  The 2 1/2″ umbrella I cut from black.  The umbrella would be cute to piece together in multiple colors but I didn’t want it to clash with the blues I used on the rest of my layout.

For the lettering, I started from the right and worked backwards to make sure I didn’t run out of room.  I put the word rain on the cloud and adhered it to the white card.  Then I stuck that down to the main journal card paper.  Add the umbrella to the bottom right corner and you are ready to journal!

Project Life DIY Rainy Days Layout

Here is the completed Project Life layout.  The day we arrived in Florida, it poured all day long.  It was raining so hard when we crossed over the Florida line, that I couldn’t even see the welcome to Florida sign.  (That blurry picture at the top right is all we could see of that sign, it was raining so hard.)  I had been taking pictures of the welcome signs for all the states we went through so I decided to include that picture on my layout anyway since it was how Florida welcomed us 🙂

Also on the page, I included a filler card with one of my favorite quotes.  “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass.  It’s about learning to dance in the rain.”  It was definitely fitting.

Since we had to change our plans because of the weather, we stayed inside and watched movies for the rest of the day.  So I included images of the dvd covers of the movies we watched.

All in all, I was pretty pleased how this page turned out.  I love that I didn’t have to buy anything new and was able to use up a few things from my stash.
