Honor their achievements with a grad party they will never forget. The following resources for graduation table decoration ideas will help you create a spectacular party without going over budget.
My son, who is a senior in high school this year, came home from school yesterday and announced that there are now less than 100 days until he graduates. For my son, who is suffering from a severe case of senior-itis, this was cause for great celebration. For me, the mom who has yet to start planning his grad party, this was cause for great alarm. It dawned on me just how much I have to do to prepare for my son’s grad party.
My oldest daughter graduated from high school 4 years and fortunately I kept some of the decorations. I had great fun planning that party – especially coming up with budget-friendly, yet beautiful, table decorations. Whether you are crafty and want to make everything yourself, or you prefer to save time and buy all your decorations, keep reading for tips and ideas on budget-friendly graduation table decorations.
Easy Graduation Table Decoration Ideas
You don’t have to do anything elaborate to have beautiful tables at your graduation party. Sometimes simple really is best. For my daughter’s party, I used tablecloths in orange. (Her school colors were orange and black.) For the centerpiece, I made a balloon topiary for each table. Underneath the centerpiece, I used a lacy paper doily. I finished off each table by scattering graduation cap party favors made from chocolate candies.
I used this tutorial over at A Little Tipsy and used it to make the graduation balloon topiary centerpieces for my daughter’s grad party. You will want to use 5 inch balloons in your school colors. Depending on what color you want, 5 inch balloons might be hard to find. If you can’t find them locally be sure to check out Amazon’s selection of 5 Inch Balloons.
If you learn better visually, here is a great video that demonstrates the techique for making a graduation balloon topiary. Mine was slightly different in that I anchored it in a glass bowl filled with marbles, so I didn’t use the balloons at the base. Between the tutorial linked above and the video, you shouldn’t have any problems figuring out how to make them. If you do have any questions though, feel free to leave them in the comment section at the bottom of this page.
More Graduation Balloon Centerpieces
Maybe you don’t have time to make a bunch of graduation centerpieces. That’s ok! Not everyone has the time or desire to make a bunch of crafts. You can have an equally beautiful table with some of these ready made graduation balloon centerpieces.

Graduation Cap Centerpieces
Graduation cap centerpieces are something else you can consider for table decorations. We chose to have the same centerpiece on each table, but you could also mix it up a bit and have a couple of different centerpieces and alternate every other table.

Graduation Cap Centerpiece Sprays
Fresh flowers are another great graduation table centerpiece option. I think these graduation cap centerpiece sprays would look wonderful in a small flower arrangement. They could be used as centerpieces on the food or gift tables if you don’t want to go to the expense of putting them on every single table. I love the look of fresh flower arrangements. However another option is to go with artificial flowers. If you are going to be holding multiple graduation parties like I am, the artificial flowers can be used again and will help you save money on future parties.
Save Money on Future Graduation Parties! If you have more than one child, you can keep and store a lot of the centerpieces and decorations. These items can then be used as decorations for the next child’s party, saving you money.
Another Idea to Make Graduation Centerpieces
A ribbon topiary is another great graduation table centerpiece idea. I made one using orange, black, and white ribbon and used it as the centerpiece on our food table.
Grad Party Favors
Instead of having a basket of favors, I chose to spread them out on each table to ensure everyone got some. I chose to make graduation cap candy favors from Hershey’s Nuggets candy. They were a huge hit with our party guests. They are so quick and easy to make. In addition, they are inexpensive. I counted on 3 for each party guest and that was plenty, even with the kids gobbling them up. See the tutorial here.
I highly recommend using disposable graduation tablecloths for your party. Much easier to clean up and you won’t have a pile of laundry to do after the party is over. In addition, it is less expensive than buying linen tablecloths for each table.
You can choose a plastic tablecloth in one of the school colors, like we did, or go with a special printed graduation tablecloth, like the ones below.

Graduation Party Paper Goods
The finishing touch of your table is graduation party paper goods so people can eat, drink, and have a good time. You can choose plain paper goods in the school colors if you like, or there is a great selection of graduation paper plates and cups available.
