Happy 4th of July 2012!!
Stars and Stripes Forever Frozen Yogurt Pops
I love to come up with special crafts and recipes for each holiday. The 4th of July is no exception. So when I came across a set of Wilton Silicone Star Ice Pop Molds, I knew they would make a fun 4th of July treat for my kids. I brought them home and immediately used them to make some cute frozen yogurt pops. The nice thing about my frozen yogurt pop recipe is that it doesn’t need any added sugar. It relies on a very ripe banana to provide the sweetness. We love them made with strawberries, but you can certainly use different fruit to change them up a bit. They are also excellent made with cantaloupe. Since I wanted a 4th of July themed dessert, I used both blueberries and strawberries. The end result is just perfect for a hot summer day. Patriotic American Girl Tutu – Make a Tutu for an 18 Inch Doll
I have seen numerous tutorials out there showing how to make a tutu for a little girl, but have never seen any instructions for making them for American Girl dolls. The Little One decided she needed an American Girl tutu. So of course, mommy was happy to get out her craft supplies and try to make one for her doll. With the 4th of July rapidly approaching, I decided to make it in red, white, and blue. Turns out it’s pretty easy to make a doll tutu, everything is just smaller. I was able to finish it up in an hour and that was with distractions. The most tedious part is cutting the strips, but that is made easier with a rotary cutter. This is a great project for your daughter to make. An adult should handle the rotary cutter and glue gun, but everything else should be easy … Continue reading
4th of July Dessert Recipe – Patriotic Trifle
I first saw this recipe in Taste of Home and thought it would be the perfect dessert for our family’s 4th of July BBQ. This recipe is so delicious, it’s hard to eat just one serving. I used little patriotic picks that I found at our local cake supply shop to decorate it, but you could certainly make this yummy dessert anytime during the summer. It would be perfect for potlucks or family reunions. The original recipe calls for Cool Whip though which I avoid because of the high fructose corn syrup. So I have modified the recipe a bit to use real cream. I also left out the gelatin because unless it is made with fruit juice, it is pretty much nutritionally bankrupt. So the end result is a wee bit healthier and oh so good. Just the perfect cold treat on a hot summer day! 4th of July … Continue reading
