Why is it necessary to have parental control on Video Games, anyway?
One may wonder why there are so many parental controls on video game consoles these days, especially if you are not a parent yourself. One might also wonder why there are separate parental controls within the games themselves. There are actually many reasons a game or console manufacturer might want to insert these controls into a game or console. The most obvious is to increase sales. Any parent who thinks it is too bloody of a game might turn away, but if they knew that the gore could be turned down, it might be ok. Furthermore, in game parental controls allow the game to grow with the child. When the child is 10, you as a parent do not under any circumstance want the child to hear any kind of swear words whatsoever. At 14, however, he has most likely heard plenty of swear words as some of these words … Continue reading

Is Homeschooling a Good Fit for Your Family?
Should I Homeschool My Child? With the disturbing and frightening news that we’ve been hearing related to public schools, I don’t blame you for thinking about homeschooling your child. Children either aren’t being taught properly, or they might not be learning what you’d like for them to. Before you decide to take your child out of public school or if you’re trying to decide if you should enroll your small child in public school, you should do your homework and think about the effect that it will have on the both of you in the long run. A Non-Traditional Lifestyle Many parents would like to travel or engage in other activities, but have to wait until their child has either graduated or is on summer vacation. If you decide to school your child at home, you can all sail or fly around the world while your child learns in the … Continue reading
I Can’t Stop Hugging My Kids
Ever since Friday when I learned of the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, I can’t stop the tears from flowing down my cheeks when I think about the senselessness of it all. Of Christmas presents sitting under the tree, never to be unwrapped. Of empty spots at the dinner table. Of arms that long to hold, but forever to be denied. Of the hole that will always be in their hearts no matter how much time has passed. I can’t stop hugging my kids. The mundane is less annoying now. My 8 year old who refuses to brush her own hair is just one more opportunity for me to hug her when I am done. My children’s petty bickering is just one more chance to hear their sweet voices. Each little minor annoyance is just one more reminder that my family is safe and whole and together. I can’t stop hugging my … Continue reading
The Boys and Girls Clubs of America Help You Encourage Your Kids to Give Back This Holiday Season
Christmas time seems to bring out the worst case of the “gimmes” in my kids. Their wish list gets longer by the day. I have been quite discouraged that they haven’t seemed to grasp the concept that it really is better to give than receive. So this holiday season we have really been focusing on being thankful for what we have and giving back to others. The Boys and Girls Clubs of America share my sentiments. They have recently launched their 2nd Annual Give the Gift of a Great Future Holiday Campaign. I hope that you and your kids will take a moment to visit their Give the Gift of a Great Future website. It contains many wonderful interactive features and is a wealth of information on helping your kids learn to give back to their community. While you are there, I hope you will play the Giving Game which allows you to … Continue reading
Protect Your Child’s Back to School Supplies with Mabel’s Labels
If you are a parent, you are probably well-acquainted with how easily children lose their belongings. My youngest daughter has a horrible problem with losing school supplies. She claims they are being stolen. Part of me thinks that she is allowing other kids to borrow them and then she never asks for them back. Whichever the case, I spend a lot of money each year replacing school supplies. This is in addition to the typical lost lunchboxes, water bottles, etc. Over the course of a school year, the expense can really add up. I am hoping that this year that will be less of a problem thanks to Mabel’s Labels Write Away Labels. About Mabel’s Labels Write Away Labels: Self-laminating – personalize how you like, then press down the overlay to seal. Waterproof – great for water bottles and lunch containers Dishwasher and Microwave safe UV resistant 2 different design … Continue reading
Help for Busy Moms – GoalForIt.com
I have a confession to make… Although I have the best of intentions, my kids don’t help around the house as much as they should. Although I dream of having an immaculate house with kids who remember to pick their towels off the floor and make their beds each morning, the reality is I end up doing those things myself more often than not. Sometimes it’s just easier that way. So when I heard that GoalForIt allows you to make a free chore chart for your kids, I was excited to give them a try.
