7 Great Dessert Ideas that will Keep your Kids Healthy and Cool

7 Great Dessert Ideas that will Keep your Kids Healthy and Cool Getting your kids to eat healthy is an everyday challenge. The cornucopia of fast and spiced up foods to be consumed immediately is a constant temptation for youth in the US. And the results took about two generations to show – Americans are more obese than any other country in the world. It is especially hard to have the kids eat healthy in the hot summer days. If they are running around in the heat you know they need to be hydrated. Since water is something they don’t appreciate very much you resort to sodas, fruit flavored water, popsicles and ice creams. Some of those are not healthy while others are full of sugars. In the name of all the parents out there, here are some dessert ideas that will keep your kids healthy and cool: Jell –O … Continue reading

Love Finds You in Mackinac Island Michigan by Melanie Dobson: Book Review

love finds you in Mackinac Island Michigan

Have you read any of the Love Finds You books? Set in US cities with quirky names, the Love Finds You book series features inspirational romantic fiction. I have read every one of them I can find. There are a few authors in the series though that I especially enjoy. Melanie Dobson is one of them. I love the way Melanie Dobson weaves bits of history into her stories. In fact her Love Finds You books are the only ones I keep and enjoy re-reading. When I found out Melanie Dobson had written a new Love Finds You book, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy. When I found out I would get to participate in a blog tour for Love Finds You in Mackinac Island Michigan, I was super excited. Before I get around to sharing my thoughts, here is a little bit about the book. … Continue reading

Livrada – the Gift of Reading Made Simpler for the Digital Age

livrada e-book gift cards

We are a family fully embracing the e-book age.  You should have seen my excitement when I got my Kindle for Christmas!  In addition to my Kindle, we have two other e-readers in the house.  My husband has a Kindle Fire and my oldest daughter has a Nook.  Given how much my other children love to read, it won’t be long until we get e-readers for them as well.  The one thing I struggle with though is how to give e-books as gifts. For birthdays and Christmas, books are a common gift in our house.  Since getting my  Kindle, I have mostly stopped buying print books.  It has been a huge help to our overflowing bookshelves!  However, this has all but eliminated the giving of books as gifts.  With everything done electronically, there is no gift to open with an e-book.  I can just imagine how that would go over … Continue reading

Sharing Sunday – July 15, 2012

sharingsunday

It’s Sharing Sunday!   It’s that day of the week when I share some of my favorite blog posts I have stumbled across this week or fun things I have found on Pinterest.  So sit back, grab a cup of tea or coffee, and enjoy! I am such a sucker for cute food presentation.  So I loved these Deviled Egg Sailboats from Six in the Suburbs. These woven lavender closet bundles from God’s Growing Garden make me wish I had lavender growing in my herb bed.  I bet they smell amazing! I definitely want to make one of these summer pinwheel wreaths from Simply Sweet Home for my entryway.  This would be a great craft for the kids! I already printed this recipe for Spelt Thins from Weed ‘em and Reap.  I haven’t made crackers since I killed off my sourdough starter.  I think now is a good time to … Continue reading

It’s Sharing Sunday!   It’s that day of the week when I share some of my favorite blog posts I have stumbled across this week.  So sit back, grab a cup of tea or coffee, and enjoy! I love this idea for S’Mores in a jar from Quick and Easy Cheap and Healthy!  It’s the perfect portable dessert for a summer picnic. I totally want to use this chicken wire wall idea at Kate & Kuby.  It would be a great way to display all my kids’ artwork they bring home from school without using pushpins or tape. Would you believe I have never ever had a Gyro?  But this recipe for ground beef gyros from Passionate Homemaking makes me want to try one! Eating out while on vacation can be so expensive!  (Especially when you have a family of 6.)  I am definitely going to be using some of … Continue reading
